Less and less

I've recently come across this website and I'm bookmarking almost every article. I read this one today and it struck a chord with so many things I'm trying to accomplish this year.

It will all get done, or it won’t. Either way, you will be ok. You can start stopping the madness by calling a catch up truce with the following:

  • Blog reading. If your blog reader is full and you have hundreds or thousands of posts waiting for your attention, start over. Declare blog reading bankruptcy and hit “clear all”. This might be a good time to assess what’s in your blog reader too. Did you add a paleo blog last year and now you are more interested in updates from a vegan blogger? Were you following a blogger that changed focus and lost your interest? It’s ok to remove blogs from your feed. There is more goodness to come. Make room for what means most to you right now.
  • Social media. If you haven’t checked Twitter or Facebook in days, you are not obligated to read everything that was posted while you were gone. You didn’t miss a thing and chances are, whatever you missed will be repeated.
  • Entertainment. You don’t need the latest TV, books, movies, games, music to be completely fulfilled. It will all be available if and when you are ready and if you are never ready, that’s ok too. Letting it go feels so much better than keeping up with it all.
I've had books on my Amazon "To Read" list since I graduated college. I've had books on my shelves just as long.

I'm taking this year to clear out the clutter: I've gotten rid of close to 75 books, cut down my Twitter and Feedly lists and purged my file cabinet and hard drive.

I realize I have better things to do than endlessly chase or organize or clean things in my life. I joked with a friend that it was time to shit or get off the pot. If the books on my list or shelves aren't read by the end of the year, they get donated.

We have so many items that fight for our attention on a daily basis, why not cut the fat and truly enjoy the things we love?

Sunday Snippets: Four Seasons?

I remember when Maryland had four seasons. Just not all in one week.

Beautiful example of humanity's goodness

I look forward to seeing my husband like this I know he's going to make a great dad.

And speaking of children....

“I don’t want to have to live like my parents did.” When I express my fears about having children, people often tell me that we can just “make it work,” but the truth is, I don’t want to just make it work. Like a lot of women I know, I want a substantial income before I take that plunge. I don’t think that’s unreasonable.

If the item doesn't make you excited to get out of bed and wear it, why the hell are you buying it?

A man drinking canned iced tea in a parking lot was accosted by a plainclothes beverage cop who demanded to inspect his drink. He was placed in handcuffs and arrested. Even though the man was innocent and was only drinking tea, prosecutors are still trying to set him up with probation and community service.

Sunday Snippets: Oh, look snow....again.....*cries*

Rape culture, what rape culture? & An article by Zerlina Maxwell

Gah! SO cute!

Feels! I love random acts of kindness.

YES! I'm so beyond tired of blackface, it's wrong, plain and simple.

What. The. Hell. Footage I got of being HARASSED by Lou Ann Zelenik and others after a court hearing. Islamaphobia is alive and well in this part of the U.S.

Endo Awareness Month Endometriosis is a weird and kind of unbelievable disease. It’s hard to describe, and it involves a top-secret body part called the uterus that you don’t hear about it much, but it affects 157 million of women across the world. (Check out this video.) Because it's underrepresented in medical training and causes debilitating pain that can’t be measured, tested, or seen on scans, you have a nice recipe for an invisible disease relegated to "crazy women."

Yup! I remember being told by a coworker, after I said I wasn't feeling well, I had to leave early and they just looked at me, sighed, and said, "You don't look sick." I had a boss tell me that, that she couldn't stop me if I really needed to leave early.

Exactly! As you can see from the chart above, the Zero Waste lifestyle is actually more about not doing(i.e, not participating in unsustainable activities) than it is about doing (working on Zero Waste) as one would expect. For me, Not participating in unsustainable activities has made room for living more, along side working a fulfilling full-time job.

Interview with Ariel Gore Her new book, The End of Eve, is out. Go buy it. Seriously.

Yay!!! That human rights wrong was corrected today when the Maryland House of Delegates voted 82-57 to pass SB 212, the Fairness for All Marylanders Act! This bill, unlike the unjust 2011 one I blasted all over these TransGriot pages at the time along with a coalition of trans people just as pissed off about the unjust bill, expand Maryland's anti-discrimination laws to protect transgender people in employment, housing, access to credit and public accommodations.

Thursday Snippets: It's Almost October Already?

Chilly mornings, boots with tights and sweater dresses, warm coffee mugs....mmm autumn. Which means cute images like this.

Really cool

Ever since I read The Zero Waste Home, the tiny house movement has captured my attention. I love the idea of working with small spaces. I am forever inspired by this article for de-cluttering ideas. I try to approach this idea in our house. I've downsized a lot on clothes and accessories, opting for quality pieces from thrift stores that can do double or triple duty.

I sincerely hope this is a prank because no one can possibly be that over the top.

A heartbreaking view of pollution But maybe a new way of looking at the problem could bring solutions?

Cannot even express how angry this makes me How fucking dare you? But no! We are totally family friendly!!!

From the Mouths of Rapists (TW) Incredibly heartbreaking and a link I will point people to when they claim it's "just a song."

Utterly fascinating

This sexist trope has always bothered me It completely makes sense, right?!

Another view of street harassment

As a rule, I only say something if I feel threatened. Like if they’ve invaded my personal space or if they’ve chosen to “follow” me when I do not want to be followed or they’ve put their hands on me. But I always wonder if I should say something about how inappropriate their behavior is. How I’ve been told all these things before and they are not “original” or “interesting.”

Sometimes it comes down to a split second decision about whether to turn the music up louder or shout "Fuck off!".

I also come across some of the funniest and poignant quotes...

Completely yes

Yes

For a funny palate cleanser....lol and harsh kitty truths
