Book Review: Cinderella Liberator

Rebecca Solnit's latest book, Cinderella Liberator, is her first foray into children's literature with a re-imaging of the classic tale of Cinderella.

I was pleasantly surprised by the direction of the story and the refreshed characters Solnit brought to life. Solnit's Cinderella is no meek flower and instead takes charge of her circumstances in a way that readers can enjoy wholeheartedly. The supporting characters; the stepsisters, the prince, the critters that help her and the fairy godmother are all painted in a new, unexpected and frankly, fun light.

The illustrations by Arthur Rackham add to the fun of this book as well. The silhouette style keep the focus on the writing, but help enhance the reinvigorated storyline.

A must read and addition to the bookshelf to anyone who has little ones in their lives!
