Mothering vs. Parenting

So much yes

Do I think that care-taking and parenthood is valuable and important? Yes, of course. But I’d certainly like it a lot more if we actually valued parenting instead of just talking about how much we value mothering.

Valuing parenting would mean actual fucking maternity/paternity leave polices instead of either 6 weeks paid, 12 weeks unpaid or absolutely nothing at all. Valuing parenting would mean flex time and telecommuting  Valuing parenting would mean great and affordable options for childcare.

There is a lot I like from this article and discussion, but most of all: that we are having this discussion. That is my favorite thing about feminism; that we continue to have these important discussions instead of just shaming or finger pointing to the "other side."
